Exams Analysis 2023-24

We are once again delighted to report an exceptional set of GCSE, Cam Tech and A level results for the academic year 2023-24 which reflect the hard work of both our pupils and staff.

At KS5 BGI has again achieved a very impressive set of results which show year on year progression from 2023 to 2024. Traditional A level results are steady and remain strong, but we are particularly proud of our Cambridge Technical achievements. Our investment in delivering these courses sets us apart from other independent schools and provides our pupils the opportunity to be incredibly successful in non-traditional subjects. Value added is excellent for our 6th form pupils and all were able to follow their chosen pathway at post 18. In 2024 this is evidenced in the fact that all of our HE hopefuls achieved either their first (82%) or insurance (18%) choices. In value-added terms we were especially proud of those students who attained KS5 results which were significantly better than their projected grades based on prior performance. For example, Dylan Smart student who had a mean score at KS4 of 3.44 went to achieve 112 UCAS points. At the other end of the scale, Sam Whitney (who had a mean score of 7.8 at GCSE) went on to attain AAB at A level with an A in the EPQ. At the time of writing, he is taking up a coveted place at Sheffield to study Engineering. The Extended Project Qualification was also instrumental in securing a place for Tom Sutliff to study Ocean Surveying at Plymouth. The A* he secured (along with two C grades) was also a crucial learning platform for his course. For reference his chosen topic was whale beaching. To put this personal achievement into context he had previously scored a mean of 5.2 at GCSE. These examples typify the value that we add to our students during sixth form. We also pride ourselves in being so much more than an academic institution and citations from students testify1 that they feel supported in terms of developing social and life skills.

At Key Stage 4 we were again delighted to record some record breaking results in many key areas. The 2023/24 GCSE cohort were a fantastic year group and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.

Pass rates at GCSE continue to be incredibly high for a non-selective school and far outstrip national averages once again. This is particularly the case with our core subjects where the following percentages for pupils gaining 4+ were achieved:

English Language 80%

English Literature 94%

Maths 91%

Biology 95%

Chemistry 95%

Physics 95%

Our foundation option subjects continue to experience unprecedented success at GCSE level and many have again achieved excellent pass rates. Several subjects including Art, Drama, French, Further Maths and Photography achieved 100% pass rates with a large number of pupils attaining extremely high grades.

BGI has taken a huge step forward this year in developing the performance of pupils at the higher end of the scale and are delighted that nearly 50% of all results were recorded at grades 6-9 for this academic year. The growth of the school and expansion of our teaching body has enabled us to hugely stretch our more able pupils and this has resulted in unprecedented success.

We are very proud of all our pupils, but would like to highlight Tana Mahachi, Lorella Cocozza, Milly Barker, Amelie Fergusson, Tanito Adefisan, Maddison Agama-Spencer, Zaphaniah Bryan, Arum Dhanju, Ellery Few-Wiegrat, Shamir Hassan, Janush Kirupakaran, Ben Morgan-Jones, Kyan Okoloi, Wulf Pottruff, Dominic Rankin, Tom Steer, Toby Sutliff, Kaya Thomson and Himmat Waraich, who have achieved incredible results, with top grade 9s included.

As is always the case at BGI we are incredibly proud of our value added statistics and are delighted with the positive impact the standards of teaching have had on pupils of all abilities. It is proven that the education provided by our exceptional teaching staff here at BGI will add significant value to all pupils from when they enter the school to sitting GCSE or A level exams.

We would like to thank all the subject teachers for providing such an excellent teaching and learning experience for our 2024 GCSE/GCE cohort. Our students continue to achieve highly across all subjects, which underlines our broad and balanced curriculum.
